Michael Bernier is the founder and lead designer of Michael Bernier Design, a premier landscape and exterior design firm based in Los Angeles, California. His projects include private residences, schools, and commercial buildings around LA, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Malibu, Sonoma, and throughout the United States and Mexico City.



Over the past decade, Michael’s designs have brought to life his client’s vision for beautifully inviting and functional outdoor living spaces, and have been featured in Atlanta Magazine, Landscape Architect, Metropolitan Home, Mid-Century Home, Synkd, and The Outdoor Room.



As Director of Exterior Design for Homeplex, I specialize in creating outdoor spaces for ADUs by transforming the often-overlooked areas surrounding these compact dwellings into vibrant, functional extensions of living space. With the understanding that we spend nearly half our lives outdoors, my focus is optimizing every square foot of exterior space to enhance both property value & owner experience.



Our designs seamlessly blend indoor & outdoor living, creating harmonious environments that maximize the potential of ADU properties. By carefully considering factors such as climate, privacy, and lifestyle needs, we craft outdoor spaces that not only complement the ADU structure but also provide a unique sanctuary for relaxation, entertainment, & connection with Nature. 
 
When not helping clients transform their outdoor spaces, you’ll find me teaching landscape design at Emory University, traveling the world, cooking, eating & drinking great wine. I love anything that gets me out into Nature, especially hiking, paddleboarding & snowboarding.
